Community School of Music and Arts announces the appointment of Adriana Marcial as Executive Director, replacing Vickie Scott Grove, who has led the organization since 2013.

After successfully leading CSMA through a period of growth and expansion, Grove announced she was stepping down in September 2023. Ms. Marcial, Executive Director of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, was selected after a national search led by CSMA’s Board of Directors.

Ms. Marcial has extensive experience in the Bay Area nonprofit arts sector. As Executive Director of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, she led the organization through the pandemic, retaining staff and students and expanding to a third location. Before becoming Executive Director, she worked as the organization’s Deputy Director, overseeing all internal operations. Previously, she led the Joe Goode Performance Group, serving for 4 years as ED. She received the Fleishhacker Foundation’s Executive Director Discretionary Grant for outstanding leadership in 2019.

Sohi Sohn, Chair of CSMA’s Board of Directors said, “The Board is looking forward to working with Adriana Marcial and continuing CSMA’s mission of bringing the arts to all. As an experienced leader from the Bay Area arts community, she brings both the passion and experience needed to lead CSMA during the coming years. We are deeply grateful for Vickie Scott Grove’s 10+ years of dedicated service and wish her nothing but the best in her next endeavors.”

“I am excited to join CSMA and to continue working towards the incredible mission of inspiring our community through arts engagement,” said Marcial. “I look forward to getting to know the CSMA community, expanding CSMA’s reach within the Bay Area, and working with the incredible CSMA staff, faculty, and Board of Directors.”

Ms. Marcial will start at the end of February 2024. She will oversee CSMA’s expansion into a satellite location in Belmont starting in April, and the continued growth of the organization’s arts programs. CSMA serves more than 28,000 people annually, including 22,000 students during their school day. The organization awarded $400,000 in financial aid to underserved students and schools during the 2022-23 fiscal year.
