Ilya Dimov obtained his bachelor’s degree, with honors, in Piano Performance and Music Theory from the Tashkent Khamza Music College, and his master’s degree in Piano Performance and Composition from the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan.
Ilya is an accomplished musician who has been actively composing, performing, and teaching music for over 40 years.
Mr. Dimov has been a member of the Composers League of the former USSR (since 1986), Israel Composers League (since 1991), NACUSA (since 2001), and the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC) since 2001.
Ilya’s teaching experience (Piano, Composition, Musicology) spans years including lectures and private instruction at music colleges such as the Tashkent State Institute of Music (Uzbekistan), the Israel Music Conservatory (Tel-Aviv, Israel), Akadma Ashdod Conservatory (Israel), Gorin Music School, and CSMA (USA). In 1991, having just emigrated to Israel, he opened his music studio.
His compositions include symphonic works, chamber music, solo pieces for piano, music for theater productions, movies, and cartoons. His works have been performed in Russia, Israel, Mexico, France, Spain, the US, and Canada.
His teaching style implements encouragement and taking apart complex ideas in a tangible form that doesn’t overwhelm or confuse the student. And under Ilya’s guidance, his students have passed ABRSM and CM exams with distinction.
He’s always been intrigued by improvisation, picking up melodies by ear as early as he can remember. At around 14, he started to become fascinated by jazz and subsequently, jazz improvisation, which was later expressed in his music in various different ways. Teaching jazz improvisation is not only a joy, it is a deep gratitude for the expansiveness of yet another facet of what music has to offer, allowing each student to explore countless musical possibilities, each one a journey of exploration. He’s seen students become more assured and confident when they were familiarized with the inner workings of how music is created.
