Teaching Philosophy

I consider the absorption and application of knowledge taught by me to my students to be the most important aspect to my work as a teacher.

Having success in playing music is a multifaceted experience. It is a journey to achieve, and I see my job as a facilitator. Part of how I teach is to understand each student’s strengths and weaknesses of the subject at hand, and to work with them to develop a routine and method for understanding, reading, and playing music.

As a teacher, my mission is to enable my students to further their own abilities by providing them with a firm understanding of music fundamentals, and then developing their technique throughout their lessons over the long term.

My teaching and performance approach can cater to every style of interest, with my core areas for students centered on contemporary music, including jazz, rock, and blues.
