Tell us a little about your ensemble.

The Mark Lettieri Group is the live vehicle I use to perform the music from my solo records. It’s a quartet featuring Jason “JT” Thomas (Snarky Puppy) on drums, Wes Stephenson (Funky Knuckles) on bass and Daniel Porter on drums. We’re a very flexible, dynamic and energetic band that improvises within the context of the compositions.

How has the recognition you have received winning GRAMMYS with Snarky Puppy and solo nominations changed your life?

Well, any sort of recognition on that level comes with elevated attention from our particular music community. I’m honored by and humbled to receive it, but it does mean that I need to keep staying “on my game” so to speak. I make sure that I’m constantly developing and improving my craft. The listeners whose support has helped us receive these awards and nominations deserve the best from us.

What can the audience expect during your performance in Tateuchi Hall?

A fun evening of instrumental music! Sonic adventures in rock, funk, jazz and soul. Lots of solos and improvisation. For fans of guitar, bass, drums and keyboards.

Anything else you would like to share with us?

It’s always great to play in the area in which I grew up and I wish we had more chances to do it. The Bay Area was a great place to experience my adolescence. Some of my best musical memories involve seeing musical heroes perform at places like the Fillmore and the Shoreline Amphitheater. Tateuchi Hall is a beautiful space and I look forward to performing there again!
