Education and Background
Bachelor of Music in Tuba Performance, Oberlin Conservatory of Music; Master of Music in Performance, University of Southern California
Originally from Concord, CA, Jonathan moved back to the Bay Area following his graduation in order to be a part of its vibrant music scene. When he’s not attempting to reforest Middle Eastern Deserts, writing songs, or teaching, Jonathan Seiberlich can be found teaching and playing the Tuba with a broad array of Bay Area performing ensembles. On any given night you may hear him perform with the San Francisco Wind Ensemble, numerous local orchestras, playing solo at MacArthur BART Station, performing with the Brassview Quintet, or with Brass Magic at the SF Jazz Center. Jonathan’s passion for expression and desire for excellence have naturally aligned him with the mission of one of the most diverse music communities in the world.
In addition to performing, Jonathan leads coachings and master classes for local public schools, teaches privately, and is a faculty member at Cazadero Performing Arts Camp.
“I believe that music should always be approached as a vehicle for self-expression, even in the practice room. I expect all of my students regardless of age and skill level to consistently strive toward improvement by practicing on their own outside of our time together. The intended goal for every student should be to play with good tone, intonation, and rhythm. However, every student is different and comes to music with different strengths and weaknesses, so my students will be given different, but similar curriculums to focus on each individual’s goals and challenges.”
