Education and Background
Yuliya was born in Kiev, Ukraine. She grew up in the artistic community of San Francisco and began performing musical theatre, singing, dancing, figure skating, and modelling at the age of 7 years old. She continued regularly performing in musical theatre shows, various choirs, vocal jazz recitals, dance troupes, and plays. She spent a year abroad in the United Kingdom studying ethnomusicology, dance education (Martha Graham technique), and classical/contemporary theatre at Roehampton University.
Since graduating with a BA in Musical Theater and Dance Education, her other projects have consisted of singing with jazz big bands for the San Jose Jazz festival, performing with circus and various dance companies throughout the bay area, teaching various genres of latin ballroom (Salsa, Bachata, Cha-cha, etc.), and working with non-profit dance organizations. Working at CSMA to help mould the creativity of her students has been such a blessing and a wonderfully passionate endeavor. Her philosophy has been to allow her students freedom of movement and imagination whilst staying inside the parameters of instruction. She always encourages that, if nothing else, have fun and MOVE!
