ASSOCIATION OF FUNDRAISING PROFESSIONALS NAMES
CSMA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ANGELA McCONNELL
OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR
Angela McConnell to be honored on November 4th at Philanthropy
Day Luncheon
(Mountain View, CA) Angela McConnell, Executive Director of
the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) at Finn Center,
has been selected for recognition as Outstanding Professional
Fundraiser of the year by the Association of Fundraising Professional
(AFP) Silicon Valley. The annual award recognizes an exemplary
fundraising professional who has at least 10 years of experience
and has demonstrated creative leadership, effective team participation,
commitment to volunteerism, and participation in and support
of many nonprofit organizations.
The award will be given at the AFP’s November 4th Philanthropy
Day Luncheon at the San Jose Fairmont. The event will also recognize
other individuals, as well as Silicon Valley corporations and
organizations, for their outstanding contributions as philanthropists,
volunteers, and grant makers. Past recipients of the outstanding
professional fundraiser award, first established in 1987, have
included Peter Hero, Ervie Smith, Eleanor Villarreal, Scott Staub
and other philanthropic leaders.
“
Angela’s many achievements and contributions have made
a profound impact on the community,” said CSMA Board of
Directors chair Mike Couch. “Because of her leadership,
Silicon Valley is now home to the region’s first-ever music
and arts education center, the only facility of its kind in Northern
California.”
Hired as CSMA’s Executive Director in July of 2001, two months before
September 11th and at the height of Silicon Valley's recession, she successfully
raised the balance of CSMA's $12 million capital campaign to build its first
permanent home since its founding in 1968. During her tenure at CSMA, she doubled
the agency’s annual fundraising to more than $1.3 million to support
the school’s commitment to Arts for All and ensure accessibility to underserved
groups, at-risk youth, and low-income families.
Prior to coming to CSMA, McConnell served as Director of Development for the
San Jose Museum of Art, where she was responsible for raising $3.5 million
annually and for implementing a $10 million endowment campaign.
McConnell has a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Administration from the
University of San Francisco and a BA in psychology from Manhattanville College
in New York. She has served on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations,
including the YMCA Mid-Peninsula, Arts Council Silicon Valley, Support Network
for Battered Women, Institute for Nonprofit Organization Management at USF,
and Krause Center for Innovation at Foothill College.
In 2004, McConnell received the Athena Award from the Mountain View Chamber
of Commerce. The annual award is presented to an outstanding woman who has
achieved the highest level of professional excellence in both business and
community, along with promoting the goals of professional women.
