New for Fall, CSMA is hosting a variety of one-day art workshops.  Workshops are a great way to try something new under the guidance of our accomplished, professional art faculty.  Take an in-depth look at our Fall offerings.

Constructions with Multiples

Marianne Lettieri
Ages 14 & up
Friday, 9/15, 6:00-8:30pm, Saturdays, 9/16 & 9/23, 1:30-5:30pm


Marianne Lettieri is a local visual artist who breathes new life into everyday objects and discarded materials with her mixed media constructions. She is currently a resident artist at the Cubberley Artist Studios Program, sponsored by City of Palo Alto. In this 3-day workshop, create interesting spatial works using multiple quantities of one kind of item. Work in small or large scale and for any display mode (wall, floor, suspended). Workshop will include creative exercises, research, concept development, rapid prototyping, collaboration, surface alteration, joining techniques and tools.

iPad Art: Sketch Walk

Caroline Mustard
Ages 18 & up
Sunday, 9/24, 1:00-4:00pm


Interested in digital art? Caroline Mustard, local iPad artist and educator, will take you on a walk where you can learn to use your mobile device to sketch using the following apps.

iOS devices:

  •  Procreate apps

Android devices:
  •  Adobe Sketch
  •  Sketchbook
  •  Infinite Painter

This workshop is a great introduction to digital art, and students who enjoy working with various software applications could move on to any of our digital arts classes.

Large Scale Color Field Painting: Rothko Style

Zoya Scholis
Ages 14 & up
Sunday, 10/1, 11:00am-4:00pm


Zoya Scholis is a local abstract artist working primarily in oil, acrylic, and watercolor. Among her many influences are painters Joan Savo, Paul Klee, and Meredith Pardue, conceptual artist Taryn Simon and performance artist Valie Export. In this workshop, make up to three paintings with acrylic inks using rags, rollers and brushes. Learn about color theory and technique while painting and creating. Learn what groundbreaking minimalist Mark Rothko meant when he famously said, “We are for flat forms because they destroy illusion and reveal truth.”

Tape & Spray Watercolor

Zoya Scholis
Ages 14 & up
Sunday, 10/29, 11:00am-4:00pm


Zoya Scholis will also be demonstrating her award-winning tape and spray technique for watercolor. Learn to create your own stencils with tape, and create two multi-layered compositions. All levels of ability welcome, and no previous watercolor experience is necessary.

Adventures in Jewelry Making

Wesley Brando has over 20 years of experience making jewelry and owns her own jewelry business in Woodside, CA. Learn to make your own signature pieces to wear, give and share in this workshop! Learn jewelry-making skills including crimping, wire bending and incorporating chain. Make gorgeous jewelry to accessorize every outfit, mood and occasion!

Wire Wrapping Jewelry Workshop

Sunday, 11/12, 12:00-4:00pm


In this advanced workshop Welsey will show how to make unique, one-of-a-kind, high-quality jewelry designs! Learn to construct intricate, detailed jewelry and wire wrap like a professional. Create a necklace, bracelet and earring set to add to your jewelry wardrobe. Must have prior wire bending experience, or have taken the Adventures in Jewelry Making workshop.

Indian Batik: The Traditional Art of Textile Design

Mathangi Sundararajan
Ages 14 & up
Sunday, 11/19, 12:00-4:00pm

Mathangi Sundararajan has decades of experience with the traditional East Indian technique of batik. Create patterned designs using wax and dye to make paintings or utilitarian pieces like tablecloths, tapestries and apparel. Makes a perfect gift for your family and friends! All skill levels welcome. Materials included with registration fee.
