Let’s get in the spirit of the season (pun intended!) with a fun, quick, and easy Halloween-themed project to try at home. Follow along for a step-by-step tutorial and learn how to make a Ghost Hand. This project is great for older preschoolers (4-5 years old), but younger children could easily make their own with a little bit of grown-up help.

Ghost Hand Tutorial

Materials you will need:

-White cardstock or thick white paper
-Black paper
-Cotton
-Pencil
-White glue
-Scissors

Step 1: Trace your hand and cut it out

Using a pencil, trace around your hand on the white cardstock/paper. (Help a younger child with this step.) Once you’ve traced your hand, use scissors to cut it out. (Younger children may need help with cutting, as well.)
Another option for young artists is to try an oval shape instead of a hand, as it’s easier to draw and cut on their own.

Step 2: Glue the cotton balls

Turn the hand upside down. Cover it with white glue and have fun sticking the cotton all over. Make sure you completely cover the hand.

Step 3: Make the eyes and mouth

Use scissors and black paper to cut shapes for the eyes and mouth. Glue them on top of the cotton, and your ghost is done! Make sure you let the glue dry completely.

Make lots of Ghost Hands to hang around the house for spooky Halloween decorations!
