Each year, CSMA displays artwork from students in our Art4Schools program at Congresswoman Anna Eshoo’s office. This year, artwork from students at seven Mountain View elementary schools was chosen for displays. The student artists and their families were honored during a reception at Rep. Eshoo’s office on Monday, June 19. Each student received a Congressional Certificate of Recognition, presented to them personally by Rep. Eshoo.
During the event, Rep. Eshoo shared inspirational words with the students. She spoke about why art is important to all the citizens who come through her office, and gave advice to the students, who she sees as the future leaders of our country.
This annual event began nearly 20 years ago, when Rep. Eshoo’s office contacted CSMA about showing student artwork from her district in her office. The first year, we selected 10-15 pieces of student work and brought them to her office. They displayed those and asked for more! Rep. Eshoo then asked if she would be able to keep them up for a year. And with that… a new tradition began!
Rep. Eshoo generously invites the student artists to her office for a reception, recognizes them with a Congressional certificate, and thanks them for loaning their artwork to her office. She always lets the children know how important their art is to the thousands of people who come through her office and how much it means to her personally.
Congresswoman Eshoo represents California’s 18th Congressional District, covering portions of San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. We thank her for her continued support of the arts and arts education, in our community and in the nation!
