As part of the commitment to Arts4All, CSMA serves the special needs community by providing classes in music, visual arts and dance. Artwork from the Artistic Intelligence program and Abilities United were on display in the Sobrato Hallway at Finn Center.
CSMA partners with the Morgan Autism Center to provide Artistic Intelligence, a weekly art, music and dance class for students on the spectrum for Autism. CSMA also partners with Abilities United to bring art, music and dance to developmentally disabled adults.
Taught by CSMA’s professional faculty, the students in these programs participate in hands-on arts experiences in a supportive, encouraging environment. Students are given a wide variety of projects such as drawing, painting, printmaking, collage and mixed media. Lessons include fundamental art concepts such as value, line, symmetry, and pattern, while also allowing the students to experiment and express their own ideas. At the end of each session, the students are celebrated through art exhibitions which highlight their hard work throughout the year and provide a sense of belonging within the arts community.
